I found an interesting thread in a forum I visit about books and stories people think should get the film treatment, esp. in sci fi and fantasy now that good special effects are accessible to small budgets.
I decided to dig around if anything was planned around some of the stories I would put on my wishlist. One of my first stops was at the Philip K Dick foundation website. He must the second most “adapted” writers in scifi after King…
I also noticed that John Alan Simon has optioned a few stories. Upon digging I found out he mostly does the scriptwriting/adaptation and then tries to sell it to studios. Found some very interesting news about one of my top wishes: “My adaptation of PKD’s “Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said” was optioned by Paramount for Tom Cruise’s production company and I did a re-write under Oliver Stone’s supervision.” (see http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Nook/3661/dick/interv.htm)
I also found an interesting story about a small budget film in the works from “a scanner darkly”, which seems very promising ( http://www.philipkdick.com/films_scanner-061204.html
). Then i found the page on the PKD foundation which lists all the stories sold recently for film adaptation. Quite a lot! I guess we can thank “minority report” for reminding the film industry of the power of some of his stories.
