And we heard nothing while the world changed

random news about the site and all sorts of things

Your shampoo may be harmful to your health

This might turn into a new pet subject of mine, along with silent PCs…

I have been reading up on the subject of chemicals used in food, cosmetics etc. and I am amazed at how many chemicals are present in stuff we use every day which are known to have harmful effects!

Most of those products are used simply because they are a cheap way to get a certain effect or texture (color, lather, smell)

It started when i looked up Laurel Sulfate after hearing it might be the cause of allergy. I found much worse than allergy…

Moved to new host, more changes coming

I finally decided to cut the grief and move hosts - some of you might have notced that there was a lot of intermittent downtime on the old host.

My new hosting company is Rochen. I spent hours comparing companies and reading through their support forum when available etc.

This company seems very fast and responsive so far, and the forums seem to support - and the packages are quite competitive too!

I restored the database from backup and things seem all right so far. Please tell me if you notice anything wrong.

I also need to decide how to evolve the site -software to power it etc.

Trying a different tool

So i caught the blog bug…

The website was powered by my own scripts, using libraries i had written in the past. Problem was, I could not be bothered to write an up to date admin script for all the different sections and therefore was inputting items straight in the database. Faster than editing html but still.

I’m now testing a new approach, letting most of the site be run by weblog style technology. Weblogs are clever but they lack structure - clearly different sections like my games section, etc.  So my games section will continue to be powered by my old script.

If necessary I might turn to a portal tool but that’d be overkill for a one person site.

Happy new year

It’s been many months since I have seen a salary, so this is my new year’s wish… Have not made a resolution this year, couldnt think of anything i would actually hold.

The company is paying its bills but it is not growing fast enough to pay decent salaries. Means we need part time jobs or contracts to keep going, or some more clients… Lots of work still, butI like what we are doing and I am learning so much..

iphi.net is back

New colours, new host which will become the main one… I am planning a relook and more soon.

I have even given up and set up a database… *sigh* this site will feel more like work after that… On the other hand i can do that kind of stuff in my sleep, especially as easy as the stuff on this site will be.

Warning: Most of the links are dead unless linked to from the text on this page. I know. I’m not uploading everything as most of it will change

Catching up on games news and updates on the site. Just did not have the heart to update the site those past weeks. I have my eyes set onthe new Radeon cards… very promising!

ISPs are evil

Could not upload my pages for over a week and now i find this (typos not mine!):

“Sunday 2nd Septmeber 2001 IMPORTANT There has been a disk error during the early hours of the morning. We are trying to recover the disk, however, if you are reading this message please reupload your site. Many apoligies for all the extra work involved. Technical Support “

Apologies on my part on all of you who had an ugly “not found” during the week.

various news

Right when I should be installing all my software on my new machine and transfering files and tweaking everything, my old machine starts misbehaving in a major way and i have to fix it instead… :(

Am still playing Sacrifice and no one lives forever and finding both enjoyable but rather difficult. Maybe its just that i didnt play much throughout summer and got all rusty?

Saw Planet of the Apes in Paris. Although i would not say it is a transcendental film I quite enjoyed it. Longer review on the next rainy day.
